Bovine Beacon®: How to Use
Application Instructions:
- Optimum positioning for the BOVINE BEACON® is between the cow's backbone and the hip and pin bones (see Drawing #1). Placement location, however, may vary depending on specific conditions at your facility, i.e. the height of stall bars and/or bedding, the ability to minimize bumping, whether the herd is synchronized, etc. The fewer opportunities for unintentional interference with the Beacon, the more accurate the results will be.
- Locate and grip the TAB (Drawing #2).
- Turn the BOVINE BEACON® upside down, and apply beads of glue to the cloth as shown in Drawing #3. Use only the glue that is provided with the BOVINE BEACON.
- Place the BOVINE BEACON®, glue-side down, on the backbone, between the hip and pin bones with the tab facing the tail.
- Press down on the cloth edges of the BOVINE BEACON® to work the glue into the hair.
Visually inspect each cow that has a BOVINE BEACON® twice a day at 12 hours intervals, or more often if possible.
Note: Prior to Beacon placement, curry the selected area to remove dirt and loose hair. Under wet or rainy conditions, dry the area before applying the BOVINE BEACON®.
