Bovine Beacon®: How to Use

Application Instructions:
  1. Optimum positioning for the BOVINE BEACON® is between the cow's backbone and the hip and pin bones (see Drawing #1). Placement location, however, may vary depending on specific conditions at your facility, i.e. the height of stall bars and/or bedding, the ability to minimize bumping, whether the herd is synchronized, etc. The fewer opportunities for unintentional interference with the Beacon, the more accurate the results will be.
  2. Locate and grip the TAB (Drawing #2).
  3. Turn the BOVINE BEACON® upside down, and apply beads of glue to the cloth as shown in Drawing #3. Use only the glue that is provided with the BOVINE BEACON.
  4. Place the BOVINE BEACON®, glue-side down, on the backbone, between the hip and pin bones with the tab facing the tail.
  5. Press down on the cloth edges of the BOVINE BEACON® to work the glue into the hair.

Visually inspect each cow that has a BOVINE BEACON® twice a day at 12 hours intervals, or more often if possible.

Note: Prior to Beacon placement, curry the selected area to remove dirt and loose hair. Under wet or rainy conditions, dry the area before applying the BOVINE BEACON®.
